Weekend at Pawleys

The Britton's invited us to Pawley's for the weekend. W e had a blast! I set up Iris' Sun Cabana for the first time. She looks adorbale in it but she prefers to roam around the sand. This is a hole John dug for the kids to play in. Iris loved it and it and so did we because it gave her freedon to crawl around and play but also kept her "contained." Great idea! I think I'll be bringing a shovel with me to the beach from now on.

1st Swing Set

I have wanted a swing for Iris for some time now but Brad did not want to have another contraption to have to weed eat around so a true swing set was out of the question, plus she's not big enough for that yet. My friend Lenna has this set and her daughter, Clara, loves it. I was on Craigslist one day and ran across the same swing set for sale and it happened to be on Wadmalaw Island. I thought "perfect!" We got the directions and drove out there. The trailer was located on "Redneck Road"---I kid you not. We pulled up and it was a trailer with the swing set out front, a cat sitting on it and chickens and ducks roaming around. The owner came out wearing a camouflage hat with a fishing hook stuck in the brim. There was also a Rebel flag flying high above their shed. It was hysterical! My first thought was "Oh no, this can't be my daughters's first swing set!" But we had driven all the way out there, the man was super nice and the price was perfect. And that's how Iris got her first Swing Set!

10 Months!

Iris is 10 months! As you can see, I still have to get creative with my picture taking because Iris still eats the sign. Her greatest accomplishment this month is her crawling. She can crawl anywhere and everywhere and is quite fast. She is also pulling up on everything she can and standing up. Her balance is not perfect but she's getting there.

We went to Indiana for the weekend. It was Kaitlyn's Sweet 16 and Nana's 94th birthday!
We tried to get a of all of the grandchildren. Left to right is Kaitlyn (holding Iris), Molly, Lauren (holding Adalyn), and Ayla (being held by her mother Sara).
Brad's cousin, Rhett, and his wife, Sara ,welcomed a new addition this February. Her name is Adalyn and she is the newest addition to the Steele family. Brad's sister, Barbara, is holding Iris below.

Eating mess continued...

and then strawberries at my Mom and Dad's. Mom is brave, I do not allow strawberry eating indoors anymore.

Eating Mess.....

Just to give everyone an idea what it is like feeding Iris these days.....This was breakfast which consisted of cheerios, oatmeal (which she attempted to feed herself) and kiwi.

Mother's Day weekend at the Beach

On Saturday we went to Kiawah for the afternoon. We started with a little snack, strawberries of course!
Then we put Iris in the water for the first time. She was a little hesitant at first....but she warmed up quickly and loved the water. If you click on the below picture to enlarge it you'll notice she is covered head to toe with sand--what a mess! We only stayed about an hour and it took well over that to pack for the beach, drive to the beach, park, lug your stuff out to the beach, pack back up, strip her down and rinse her off at the showers, get back in the car, drive home, take a bath, unpack etc. A lot of effort for a little bit of fun but all in all it was well worth it. (notice in the pix below that Iris is tanner than her daddy--hee! hee!)

Boating, Breakfast & Baseball

Sunday, May 3rd was a busy day for us. We woke up and went for an early morning boat ride. We stopped in the harbor to get gas for the boat. Iris enjoyed some breakfast on the boat while daddy pumped gas. Then we went back home for nap time, lunch and then off to the RiverDogs game. Brad's CEO is moving so they had a farewell surprise party for him at the Riverdogs game. Iris got passed around like a hot potato but seemed to enjoy herself.

In fact she enjoyed it so much that we decided to see what she would look like as a future baseball player. I'd say pretty darn cute!
